Frequently asked questions

Donors

Is my donation tax deductible? All monetary donations to Two Screens for Teachers are tax deductible through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor DonorsChoose. If you purchase a monitor directly for a teacher, please check with your tax advisor about whether you can deduct this.

Is a second monitor still useful if teachers go back into the classroom soon? Yes, many schools plan to continue at least some of their instruction online for some time. For example, a school might have a “hybrid” approach with some students in the classroom and some attending virtually. The second monitor can be used in the classroom to see the students who are attending virtually. Beyond the pandemic, a second monitor lasts a decade and will increase teachers’ productivity and technical ability to prepare for the future.

Why did you pick a 22” monitor? What about touch screens? We think a 22” monitor is the best value and most likely to fit on a teacher’s existing desk. We’re not offering a touch screen option yet because they are about $200 more expensive and we are trying to get monitors for as many teachers as possible.

What steps are you taking to reduce fraud? We ask the donor to verify the school address or email domain to confirm it’s a real teacher.

Can I help teachers at low-income schools? Yes, just select “I prefer to help low-income schools first” when you sign up to buy a teacher a monitor.

Can I purchase a monitor for a specific teacher? Yes, just select “I’d like to buy a monitor for a specific teacher” when you sign up to buy a teacher a monitor. You’ll need to have the teacher’s school email address for this option.

Can I donate a used monitor? Yes, fill out our used monitor donation form.

Teachers

Who is eligible to apply for a monitor? At this time we are limited to full time K-12 public school classroom teachers, and other teachers who teach full classes of students (e.g. PE, library, art, music). The goal of the two screen setup is to allow the teacher to see students on one screen, while displaying lesson content on the other.

How long will it take to get my monitor? If we have a donor to match you with, you’ll get your monitor in about a week. If we don’t have a donor to match you with, it could take longer.

Will the monitor belong to me or my school district? The monitor is being provided to you as a gift by the donor, and is intended to be yours to keep.

Can you ship the monitor to my home address? Yes. We realize it’s more convenient for some teachers to have the monitor shipped to their home, so you now have the option to choose between school and home delivery when you sign up for a monitor. If you previously signed up for the home shipping waitlist we will be emailing you to confirm that you still need a monitor - please keep an eye out for this.

How do I set up my second monitor? Here’s how to set up your second monitor on a Mac or PC.

How do I connect the monitor to my computer? We help you pick the right video cable for your computer. You do not need any other special equipment.
