Two Screens for All Seattle Public School Teachers

Today we’re announcing that Two Screens for Teachers is buying monitors for all Seattle Public School teachers who need one. We’re buying about 3,000 monitors in Seattle for about $400,000.

This project was funded with a matching grant from the Mark Torrance Foundation and a collection of early Microsoft, Amazon, and Redfin employees, along with venture capitalists from the Madrona Venture Group and Pioneer Square Labs.

“We’re challenging tech leaders across the country who understand the benefits of two screens to buy monitors for teachers who need them.”

— Matt Lerner, Founder of Two Screens for Teachers

“Remote teaching game changer.”

— Peter W. West Woodland Elementary, Seattle WA

“Not only did one screen slow class down, but it also increased my stress and confusion as I hurriedly switched back and forth to monitor both my content and what my students are doing. Now with two screens I have SO much more space to organize all that activity during class time.”

— Joshua H. Chief Sealth International High School, Seattle WA

“Total game changer.”

— Sofia B. Sand Point Elementary, Seattle WA

How to do this for your school district

You can partner with Two Screens for Teachers to buy monitors for teachers in your school district and we’ll help you with everything below.

Step 1: Figure out how many teachers are in the school district you’d like to help. You can usually Google “How many public school teachers are in San Francisco” or search the National Center for Education Statistics. In San Francisco, this is about 3,189 teachers.

Step 2: Figure out the approximate cost of funding the school district. For example, if 80% of the teachers in San Francisco need monitors that’s 2,558 teachers. Multiply that number by about $130 for the monitor and video cable and the total cost is around $333,000.

Step 3: Put together a funding plan. For example, in Seattle the Mark Torrance Foundation provided a $250,000 matching grant and members of the tech community pitched in the rest.

Step 4: Contact us and we’ll help you partner with the school district and purchase the monitors with bulk discounts we have negotiated with the monitor manufacturers. All the school district needs to do is send an email to their teachers, we’ll take care of the rest.
